 | Reaction Time Demo
What is it?
It is a game in which students are placed in teams of 2 or 4. Each team is given a yardstick, a time sheet and a blindfold.
How do you play?
The subject is blindfolded and seated in a student desk or chair. The teammate suspends the yardstick between the subject's first two fingers. The teammate touches the subject at some location on his body and drops the yardstick at the same time. The subject is told to grab the ruler when he feels the experimenter touch him. This way the reaction-time can be transformed from seconds into inches and then easily measured and recorded.
What outcomes can we achieve?
- We get the students to work cooperatively in teams.
- We can illustrate that when a nerve impulse has a long distance to travel it takes longer.
- If we introduce caffeine in the experiment, we may measure the affect of a stimulant on neural transmission times.
What is included in the kit?
- 8 yardsticks delineated in inches on both sides
- 1 reproducible time recording sheet
- 1 complete classroom instructions
- Two additional yardstick demos
How much does it cost?
The kit costs $ 15.00.
