What is it?
So you can't get your department head to pop for some money to buy our games and demos? We here at Psychkits have two classroom-proven options for you to generate some extra money for supplies, and, demonstrate some principles of psychology on the back swing.
Option #1:
Install a gum ball machine in your room. We will sell you a table mounted machine at our cost, $ 55. Based on the experiences of classroom teachers who are doing this, you can easily gross $ 80./ month. If you buy the gum balls at Sam's Club your take home profit will be about $ 35./month.
Of course, you would have to get past the administrative powers about this. You can easily demonstrate the power of intermittent reinforcement schedules by making one little change in the system. Gum under the desktops or seats and the gum ball machine is history. They will all cooperate. If you want a detailed explanation about how to make this work well for you, just email us and we will send you a free packet explaining how to make this fly.
Option #2:
Sell, "Blow Pops" to your students at 25¢ a pop. Your profit margin is well over 50%, if you buy them at Sam's Club. You put the box of Blow Pops in your closet and inform the students that the pops cost 25¢. You can then tell them that they will be on the honor system. You indicate to them that you will take inventory and check the money on a regular basis and report back to them about how the program is running. You can link this to Kohlberg's hierarchy of moral reasoning. On the first level, you would have to be standing over the Blow Pop box to make sure everybody put a quarter in the bucket, which of course you cannot do.
On the second level, "social convention," students put a quarter in the bucket because they want to conform and not be labeled s a thief. On the third level, students put a quarter into the bucket because they realize that if they don't the whole system shuts down. You must indicate to the students that if the money/inventory discrepancy factor gets to be more than 15%, you will shut everything down. There are many small nuances about the operation of this program that we cannot go over here. If you are interested in this just email us and we will send you a free packet explaining everything about the program.
