Dyadic Experience
What is it?
It is a communication game in which students are randomly paired in dyads.
How do you play?
After students have been paired, hopefully with someone they do not know, or who they know only slightly, each is given a booklet. The booklet has about 50 pages on which conversational prompts are printed. The directions on how to play the game are printed at the beginning of the booklet. The students read the instructions and proceed to play the game on their own.
What do you accomplish?
- Because of the way that the demo is set up it forces students to practice good communication techniques.
- It forces them to learn how to listen, a skill few students have mastered.
- It allows them to work cooperatively on an activity with minimal teacher involvement.
- It gives them the techniques necessary to get to know someone they don't know.
- The students like this activity because it is about their favorite agenda;socializing.
What is included in the kit?
- 2 Sets of masters which will allow you to make class sets of the two editions of the booklets
- 1 Set of instructions on how to make booklets
- Complete teacher instructions on how to run the activity including some suggestions for possible post-game discussions
