 | Arachnophobia
What is it?
It is a game which can demonstrate the physiological effects of phobias and empathic reactions of those who do not actually see the phobic object.
How do you play?
A phobic student is seated at a desk in the middle of the room. He/She is exposed to a lifelike rubber tarantula and his/her physiological response is measured. The physiological responses of others who are phobic, but who have not actually seen the phobic object are also measured.
What can you achieve?
- You can demonstrate that phobias produce real, measurable effects.
- You can also show that others in the class who are arachnophobic will manifest a physical response even though they do not actually see the phobic object.
- You can demonstrate how cognitions mediate our interpretations of incoming stimuli.
